Sustained Investigation #2

Jess's Taco

This was the second project of my Sustained Investigation Series. My focus was on color and tacos. I had this idea from the beginning and was very excited to do it. I took a picture of my sister eating a taco, then I printed it and traced it. I wanted it to look like pure contour however it didn’t quite come out that way. After I finished tracing it I went over silver sharpie. I then began to fill in the different parts of her.

I started with the taco. I made different shades of yellows for the shell. I then moved on to the face with shades of reds and oranges. Since I was focusing on color I did this instead of just doing solid colors. When it came to the background I was stumped. My original idea for this was just to do black to make it stand out more but then I realized how much black that would actually be. So then I thought I could be splatter painting but then I ran out of time so I decided to just do a watercolor wash.

I really like this peuce and it means a lot to me. It is by far my favorite of the investigation piece. I like it a lot because of the bright colors and mixes of colors. It gave me lots of pop art vibes too which I like as well.
