Inclusion Project

Inclusive Basketball

This project was the inclusion project. The idea for this project took me a long time to come up with something to do. I thought that I wanted to do something with sports but I didn’t know how to execute it. Then I thought to do basketball. I started off by making the whole court including a scoreboard I made a light sketch of the people because I didn’t want to have to go over them. The story behind this piece was that even if you have a disability you can still do lots of things and be good at them. The girl making the basket has a prosthetic arm but is making the winning basket and the other two girls there are hugging because they have just won their game. The one girl hugging has a blade leg which she lost to cancer which is also why she has no hair.

I used watercolor pencils and a red sharpie for the background and then for the people I used pen and watercolor pencils. I chose not to give them a face because I was afraid I would not be able to get it how I wanted it and I thought that not giving them a face actually gave it more character by letting the audience be able to imagine what they wanted.

I liked having almost full power over this project. I liked my idea that I had come up with and I am happy by how I was able to execute it. I wish I had found a better way to make the basketball and the scoreboard more realistic. But overall I like this project.
