Flowerflies
10x7
For the Beautiful Oops it started with getting a black piece of paper with an ink spot on it. I had to turn the ink spot into something else creating something out of the “mistake”. As soon as I got my ink spotted paper I thought of a flower. As I was looking at it however I realized that the petal would be to far away from the center of the flower. This brought back memories from last year when I say a similar problem with my beautiful oops. As I looked at the ink spots more I began to see the longer ink spot as a dragon fly. So I got the idea to make a scene with flowers and dragonflies.
After I had my idea I began to draw the flowers I decided to add butterflies to the picture too so I drew more flowers along with the butterflies and dragonflies for the ink spot I turned into a dragonfly I just gave it wings because I thought that the ink looked enough like the body to have to add anything else. Once I was done drawing I began to color. To color I used colored pencil For the butterflies I burnished the pencils but for the rest I did it lighter to give it more of a pastel look. On the flower petals I did them either multicolored or a lighter and darker shade of the same color to give them more character.
Overall I really liked how this drawing came out. I really like the way that the colors compliment each other, I think that it had good contrast. If I could have changed something I think I would have spent more time on the butterflies. Because I lied everything else so much and don’t really care for the butterflies it makes it just a little less than it could be. I liked making this project because I think it really helps bring out imagination which is something I feel I struggle with as an artist.
