Tonal Square

Shaded Square

4.25x4.25”

The story behind this drawing is that we collaborated with other students to create a final art piece I was given one specific part to practice shading. It relates to my life because I am an art student collaborating with the other students.

I started with an H pencil then I added my darker spots with a 4B pencil. Then I used an eraser to create the highlights and blended it all together to get my finished final product.

I started by dividing my small 1inch reference into 4 sections then dividing my square into the same sections. Then I started with my H pencil sketching where the shadows and highlights would be, then I took my other pencils and added more intense shadows and then used an eraser to create highlights. My art evolved when I added more intense shadows and more defined shadows. My next steps would be to darken the grey spots.
