Pixelated Portrait

My Best Friend (left)

21cm x 26cm

The story behind this piece is that my best friend Kaitlynn stole my phone and took a few photos on it, and I decided to use one of them in this project. It relates to my life because the subject is my best friend and it was the only nice photo of her on my phone.

For this project I had to blend oil pastels together to create pixels of color, so I used oil pastels and a tortillion to blend the colors together.

I started this project off by gridding both my reference and my paper in centimeter by centimeter squares and used oil pastels to average the color shown on the reference, I did this square by square until it was finished, but since I finished a little early, I wanted to do an additional project using the same method but using a photo of a broadway star—Amber Gray— to show how "skilled" I can be with the materials given. My art evolved when I took my time blending each square. My next steps would be to not have the white streaks that would separate each square and attempt to blend it better.
