Due to Australia’s increasing population and a warmer climate, more and more people attend the beach during the summer months. Lifesavers are under increased pressure to treat injuries. When treating patients, members can feel overwhelmed and sometimes forget how to treat the different injuries, leading to the potential mistreatment of patients.

According to the SLSA National Coastal Safety Report for 2019-20. There has been an alarming decrease in members with a first aid qualification from 10,545 members in 2018-19 to 9,272 in 2019-20. I wanted to address a need in Surf Life Saving, as I have been an active member for numerous years. In my experience, treating any First Aid injuries is very stressful, trying to remember how to treat injuries correctly.

My solution is composed of two parts. Component one is an app that walks Surf Life Saving members through how to correctly treat specific common First Aid injuries with the aid of visuals and step-by-step instructions. The member can select the injury they are treating, and then an icon pops up telling the member which specialised Kit to use. Component two is the specialised First Aid Kit.
