1. Who are you doing research with this summer and what kind of research project are you doing?
This summer I am doing research with Dr. Margie Roos and Dr. Theilman Our work requires us to work with post stroke patients, who go through an 8-week low intensity training session. Then after the training session, they are tested to see if they had an improvement in their cognitive functions.
2. What do you find fascinating in the research you’re doing?
I personally have never had experience with a stroke patient before, so every time a new subject comes in I’m intrigued to see how each subject shows a different response to each of the tests.
3. What skills are you learning through the USURF experience?
Through this experience I am learning how to interact with different subjects as well as collect data interpret it using programs such as MATLAB.
4. What are the challenges you’re encountering in your research?
We have not faced too many challenges, although it is hard finding subjects who want to participate and complete the study all the way through.
5. How is your USURF experience impacting the way you view your field?
This experience is making me interested in working with the elderly and specializing into neuro.
6. Tell us something interesting about yourself.
I have been dancing and swimming since I was 8 years old, and I always thought I was going to have a career in fashion but after I was injured (“Trigger Toe”) while dancing I received physical therapy which intrigued me to go to school to become a physical therapist.
