PHYSICS MAJOR CLASS OF 2024
1. Who are you doing research with this summer and what kind of research project are you doing?
I am doing research with Dr. Ramos this summer. My research project entails making use of a Wire Bonder to make hard contacts in our superconducting samples to reduce failure.
2. What do you find fascinating in the research you’re doing?
Superconductors are something I have been interested in for a long time, but learning about the mechanisms of the wire bonder and how to operate them has been really rewarding.
3. What skills are you learning through the USURF experience?
Wire Bonding techniques, LabView coding, and problem-solving in general are some of the skills I think this experience has provided me with.
4. What are the challenges you’re encountering in your research?
Some of the challenges I’ve faced with this project include: some of the machine parts needed replacing or servicing, developing technique to thread the wire, and learning to troubleshoot when it doesn’t work properly.
5. How is your USURF experience impacting the way you view your field?
This research experience has shown me that I am capable and resourceful, which has given me the confidence that I will be able to grow and succeed in my field.
6. Tell us something interesting about yourself.
I can say the ABC’s backwards
