Go10 Project Updates

Post date: Jun 18, 2017 2:55:04 AM

FIRST NOTICE: Full closures of I-10 6/28 east, 6/29 west; Paisano is closed from Spur 1966 - downtown until 7/1; not so bad next week...

Hi There:

GO10 is going great guns, and there are lots of walls and structures going up all over the place. Resler’s new direct connect is virtually complete (see next paragraph). The second Paisano bridge is coming along. At Sunland Park, you’re seeing columns, caps, beams, and bridge deck as the new “Texas Turnarounds*” take shape (*as they are known nationwide – here we just call ‘em U-turn lanes, kind of like French fries are just pommes frites in France). Those are going to save our bacon when we build the new Sunland Park overpass, as we can use them as main lanes. Is this making you hungry?

Closures next week will be a daytime lane closure under I-10 at Mesa, 6/19- 6/23; traffic down to one lane overnight in each direction under Sunland Park, Wednesday and Thursday, 6/21 and 6/22; and the usual Westbound frontage road lane reduction at Sunland Park offramp. Coming up in two weeks: nighttime full closures of 10 East Wednesday, (6/28), N. Mesa to Sunland; and 10 West Thursday (6/29), Resler to N. Mesa, while crews work on adding digital message boards to the Resler ramp.

Border West is also making good progress, and closing Paisano from Spur 1966 into downtown for three weeks (one down, two to go is what I am told) will allow them to do the following:

Realign Paisano (that’s reconstructing the roadway along there)

Relocate some utilities

Work on that part of Bridge 17, the really long one that veers over onto the levee there.

Obviously, we thought the trade-off was worth it, but again, better make sure it’s not your car that stalls out, goes flat, or runs out of gas on I-10. Almost happened to me a couple of days ago in a TxDOT van I was driving. Suddenly I noticed the gas gauge was on the E, and I could just imagine what you’d say if I caused a traffic jam in the ‘tunnel.’ I took the very next exit, sweatin’ it the whole way. Cheese and crackers!

Santa Fe closure is still in place, so getting out of South El Paso and trying to head west, is, well, trying. I am afraid there is no easy way unless you head east for a bit, perhaps to Campbell, before heading north to I-10. All the rest is below for your reading enjoyment.

Happy Father’s Day to everybody, whatever your situation.
