Important Media Event This Monday Oct. 14 Supporting Franklin Mountains State Park

From: Sharon Miles-Bonart, Ph.D., NCED

Hello Friends, Hope you can spread the word about this . . .

The Texas Coalition For State Parks is sponsoring a series of media events around Texas to promote a YES Vote on Prop. 5, which will be on the upcoming Nov. 5 ballot.

Proposition 5 is dear to the hearts of all lovers of open space and the great outdoors – it provides an increase of funding for ALL Texas Parks & the TX Historical Commission. This is not a new sales tax. Prop. 5 requires no new taxes or fees of any sort. Proposition 5 is a constitutional amendment, that must be approved by the voters.

The El Paso Media Event is on Mon. Oct 14 at 10:00 am at Franklin Mountains State Park (at entrance of park), 1331 McKelligon Canyon Road, El Paso, TX 79930. We know there are thousands in El Paso who love open space. I hope you can join this Special Event to help impress the local media and bring this important Proposition to the attention of all El Pasoans. Numbers matter!

Prop. 5 permanently dedicates all revenue from the existing Sporting Goods Sales Tax goes to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Texas Historical Commission. Currently, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department only gets a portion—often just 40%—of the money. Proposition 5 guarantees the parks will get 100% of those funds.

This Monday, Oct. 14th let's show up at the State Park, 1331 McKelligon Canyon Road, for the media event to help campaign for Proposition 5 and the increased funding for the State Park.

Please vote “Yes” on Proposition 5 November 5th for the state parks of Texas.

Early voting starts Oct. 21 through Nov. 1st. Regular voting is November 5th.
