Prince Rhuno is one of the mainstays on the Black Pike, and even though he is as far as anyone knows a completely normal human, he has been Captain Nera's first mate for at least two centuries and doesn't look to have aged much -- just another side-effect of being on the crew of a demi-goddess. As well as being one of the most accomplished magic-users ever to have graduated from the Vesian College of Magic, Arts and Healing
The title "Prince" is genuine; he was the younger brother of King Thoran of Ardach, and was all set to become the royal Court Magician for his brother after completing his studies at the College. However, for some reason, the moment he graduated he decided to become a pirate instead, joined Captain Nera and never looked back. There have been a lot of rumors that he killed thirteen people in order to ensure that his brother was the one who inherited the throne and he fled to sea to avoid prosecution, but this was never proved.
Rhuno, while fearless and merciless in battle, is unfailingly polite and well-mannered, often chiding the crew for being too rude. He's also a little vain; he likes to look good and dress stylishly, but in a pinch he's not afraid to get his hands dirty. Unlike some second-in-command pirates, he's utterly loyal to his captain and has no desire to take her place, and in turn he is one of the few people Captain Nera completely trusts and respects.
