"Hey there. I'm Doctor Coppa. Look, I don't particularly want to harm you, and I don't think you're particularly keen on being harmed either, so how about we just settle this by you giving me your valuables before my wife arrives? I assure you, she's not the sort to sort things out peacefully.
No? Oh well, it was worth a try. Arlena -- over here!"
Doctor Coppa is an old college mate of Prince Rhuno's. They met at the Vesian College of at the Vesian College of Magic, Arts and Healing, and while Rhuno was a Prince who was studying magic while Coppa was a commoner who studied healing and medicine, they struck up a friendship. It's said that Coppa, upon finding that Rhuno was being pursued by people from his kingdom, was the one who helped him escape to sea, where they both were hired for Captain Nera's ship, the Black Pike. Coppa immediately became the ship's physician and master carpenter, and has held the job quite comfortably for centuries, keeping the ship in repair and the crew in good health.
Coppa is an intelligent and learned man, and quite possibly the least violent crewmember of the Black Pike, usually happy to keep back during boardings and plunderings and let the others get on with the fighting before he emerges afterwards to patch up the injured and heal wounds. After all, he is a trained doctor and still remembers how his studies imprinted in him that he shouldn't do any harm to his fellow man... he doesn't see plundering a few rich people as doing "harm," though he will balk at stealing from the poor, and is definitely the one in the crew most inclined to give to the poor after having robbed from the rich.
He's also a "family man" of sorts; he's married in all but name to the ship's cook, Arlena, and they have a daughter named Lydia, who has now become the deck hand on board.
