Constitutional Cherokees

Although the Constitutional Cherokees celebrate private festivals on an entirely different schedule, there are some festivals that are semi public / open to the public (by invitation only) that are based on the common calendar most of us are accustomed to using.

Festival 1

The New Moon of Spring Publicly celebrated the first FULL week of March that can run from a - Monday to a Saturday on the modern calendar system.

Festival 2

2. The First Corn aka New Corn or sprouting corn celebrated the Second full week of April that can run from a - Monday to a Saturday.

Festival 3

3. The Ripe / New Corn aka Green Corn: the Second FULL week of June that runs from a Monday to a Saturday (*in some areas, this is celebrated in JULY or even in AUGUST; the selection of the earliest date possible that not just corn but all plants in the garden (that were planted earlier that spring) ripen as it must be performed before anything in the garden is harvested)

4. The New Year Moon Third full week of September that runs from Monday through Saturday.

Festival 5

HIGHEST (semi-public) FESTIVAL OF THE YEAR

5. The Clan Festival aka the Friendship Ceremony or sometimes referred to as the Brush Arbor Celebrations; is the second full week of October that runs from a Sunday to a Saturday- but this festival lasts 8 days so it goes over into the 2nd [or sometimes this falls on the 3rd Sunday] see HANDBOOK at http://constitutional-cherokee.blogspot.com/2010/10/ritual-festival-5-of-7.html for details on celebration

6. The Bounding Bush Ceremony Third full week of December that runs from a Monday to a Saturday
