Aphrodite of Milos (Greek: Αφροδίτη της Μήλου, Aphroditi tis Milou), better known as the Venus de Milo, is an ancient Greek statue and one of the most famous works of ancient Greek sculpture. Created sometime between 130 and 100 BC, the statue is believed to depict Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty (Venus to the Romans). It is a marble sculpture, slightly larger than life size at 203 cm (6 ft 8 in) high.

Η Αφροδίτη της Μήλου είναι ένα από τα διασημότερα έργα της αρχαιοελληνικής γλυπτικής. Βρέθηκε το 1820 στο νησί της Μήλου από έναν αγρότη, αλλά κατέληξε στο μουσείο του Λούβρου στο Παρίσι. Ο Δήμος Μήλου ξεκινά διαδικασίες για την επιστροφή του αγάλματος στο όμορφο Κυκλαδονήσι.
«Είναι νομίζω η αρχή για να καταφέρουμε αυτό που χρωστάω και χρωστάμε και στους προγόνους αλλά και στα παιδιά μας», σχολίασε στην κάμερα του euronews ο δήμαρχος Μήλου Γεράσιμος Δαμουλάκης.
Η αντιδήμαρχος του νησιού Ζαμπέτα Τουρλου προσθέτει: «Θεωρούμε ότι η Αφροδίτη είναι ξενιτεμένη και ήρθε η ώρα να γυρίσει. Ζητάμε από όλο τον κόσμο, στην Ελλάδα, Έλληνες του εξωτερικού σε κάθε γωνιά της Γης, να δώσουν το δικό τους μήνυμα για την αναγκαιότητα της επιστροφής του αγάλματος της Αφροδίτης πίσω στο νησί της».
Την Κυριακή βρέθηκε στη Μήλο ο Πρόεδρος της Ελληνικής Δημοκρατίας Προκόπης Παυλόπουλος. Κατά την ομιλία του σε τελετή για την αναγόρευσή του σε επίτιμο δημότη Μήλου, ο ΠτΔ εξήρε τη σημασία του αγάλματος της Αφροδίτης: «Είναι ένα άγαλμα της Ελληνιστικής Εποχής, έκπαγλης ομορφιάς, το οποίο το θαυμάζουν όλοι, το θαυμάζει ολόκληρη η ανθρωπότητα μπαίνοντας στο Λούβρο».
Η απεσταλμένη του euronews στο πανέμορφο Κυκλαδονησι Νικολέτα Δρούγκα μεταδίδει: «Στο Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο της Μήλου, οι επισκέπτες βλέπουν ένα αντίγραφο του αγάλματος της Αφροδίτης. Φιλοδοξία των τοπικών φορέων είναι μέχρι το 2020, 200 χρόνια από την ανακάλυψή του, το αυθεντικό άγαλμα να επιστρέψει στο νησί».
