OPENING HYMN: "Praise to the Lord, the Almighty"

1 Praise to the Lord, the Almighty the King of creation!

O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy Health and Salvation~

Join the full throng; Wake, harp and psalter and song;

South forth in glad adoration!

2 Praise to the Lord, who o'er all things so wondrously reigneth,

Who, as on wings of an eagle, uplifteth, sustaineth

Hast thou not seen How thy desires all have been

Granted in what He ordaineth?

3 Praise to the Lord, who hath fearfully, wondrously, made thee;

Health hath vouchsafed and, when heedlessly falling, hath stayed thee.

What need or grief Ever hath failed of relief?--

Wings of His mercy did shade thee.

4 Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee,

Who from the heavens the streams of His mercy doth send thee.

Ponder anew What the almighty can do,

Who with His love doth befriend thee.

5 Praise to the Lord! Oh, let all that is in me adore Him!

All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before Him!

Let the Amen Sound from His people again;

Gladly for aye we adore Him.

HYMN of PRAISE: "All Glory Be To God On High"

1 All glory be to God on high, Who hath our race befriended!

To us no harm shall now come nigh, The strife at last is ended.

God showeth His good will to men, And peace shall reign on earth again;

O thank Him for His goodness!

2 We praise, we worship Thee, we trust, And give Thee thanks forever,

O Father, that Thy rule is just And wise, and changes never.

Thy boundless power over all things reigns, Done is whatever Thy will ordains.

Well for us that Thou rulest.

3 O Jesus Christ, Thou only Son Of God, Thy heavenly Father,

Who didst for all our sins atone And Thy lost sheep dost gather.

Thou Lamb of God, to Thee on high From out our depths we sinners cry,

Have mercy on us, Jesus!

4 O Holy Ghost, Thou precious Gift, Thou Comforter unfailing,

O'er Satan's snares our souls uplift And let thy power availing

We trust in Thee to save us.

THE SCRIPURE READINGS:

The Old Testament Reading: Isaiah 56:1, 6-8

This is what the Lord says: “Maintain justice and do what is right, for my salvation is close at hand and my righteousness will soon be revealed. 6 And foreigners who bind themselves to the Lord to minister to him, to love the name of the Lord, and to be his servants, all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it and who hold fast to my covenant— 7 these I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.” 8 The Sovereign Lord declares— he who gathers the exiles of Israel: “I will gather still others to them besides those already gathered.”

Epistle Lesson Romans 11:13-15, 29-32

13 I am talking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch as I am the apostle to the Gentiles, I take pride in my ministry 14 in the hope that I may somehow arouse my own people to envy and save some of them. 15 For if their rejection brought reconciliation to the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead? 29 for God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable. 30 Just as you who were at one time disobedient to God have now received mercy as a result of their disobedience, 31 so they too have now become disobedient in order that they too may now receive mercy as a result of God’s mercy to you. 32 For God has bound everyone over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all.

The Gospel Reading Matthew 15:21-28

21 Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.” 23 Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.” 24 He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”

25 The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said. 26 He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.” 27 “Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.” 28 Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment.

THE CREED

C: I believe in God the Father Almighty; Maker of heaven and earth

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary: Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost; The holy Christian Church, the communion of saints; The forgiveness of sins; The resurrection of the body; And the life everlasting. Amen.

SERMON HYMN: "With Broken Heart and Contrite Sigh"

1 With broken heart and contrite sigh, A trembling sinner, Lord, I cry.

Thy pard'ning grace is rich and free-- O God, be merciful to me!

2 I smite upon my troubled breast, With deep and conscious guilt opprest;

Christ and His Cross my only plea-- O God, be merciful to me!

3 Far off I stand with tearful eyes Nor dare uplift them to the skies;

But Thou dost all my anguish see-- O God, be merciful to me!

4 Nor alms nor deeds that I have done Can for a single sin atone.

To Calvary alone I flee-- O God, be merciful to me!

5 And when, redeemed from sin and hell, With all the ransomed throng I dwell,

My raptured song shall ever be: God has been merciful to me.

SERMON: "Mercy Only Mercy" Romans 11:13-15, 29-32

LORD'S PRAYER

BENEDICTION

CLOSING HYMN: "Out of the Deep I Cry"

1 Out of the deep I call To Thee, O Lord, to Thee.

Before Thy throne of grace I fall; Be merciful to me.

2 Out of the deep I cry, The woeful deep of sin,

Of evil done in days gone by, Of evil now within;

3 Out of the deep of fear And dread of coming shame;

All night till morning watch is near I plead the precious name.

4 Lord, there is mercy now, As ever was, with Thee.

Before Thy throne of grace I bow; Be merciful to me.
