ORDER OF WORSHIP

INVOCATION:

P: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C: Amen

P: The next day the great crowd that came for the Feast heard that Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem. They took palm branches and went out to meet Him shouting.

C: Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the King of Israel.

P: Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it, as it was written, “Do not be afraid O Daughter of Zion see your King is coming seated on a donkey’s colt.”

C: We welcome our coming King with shouts of Hosanna. We spread our coats and palms before Him. Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest!

P: Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord.

C: Hosanna to the Son of David.

OPENING HYMN: “All Glory Laud and Honor” #160

CONFESSION:

P: We come into the presence of our King and pray: Save us, now, from our sins.

C: I confess before you, Lord Jesus, that I am guilty of sin against You. I have betrayed You with my lovelessness, committed treason against You by my faithlessness, scorned You by my thoughtlessness. I have crucified You by my sinfulness. I deserve the punishment that You endured. In repentant sorrow I beg Your forgiveness. In Your innocent suffering may I find forgiveness. Amen. (Time of Silence)

P: Jesus died for you that your sins should be forgiven. He took upon Himself, became forsaken by God, and bore your guilt on the cross, so that you might be declared innocent. As a called and ordained servant of the Word, I announce unto you that your sins are forgiven fully and freely in His great mercy and love. Let us praise God for His grace.

HYMN: “Ride on Ride On in Majesty” #162

PRAYER OF THE DAY:

ALL: Almighty and everlasting God the Father, who sent Your Son to take our nature upon Himself and to suffer death on the cross that all mankind should follow the example of His great humility, mercifully grant that we may follow the example of our Savior in His patience and also have our portion in His resurrection; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

OLD TESTAMENT READING: Zechariah 9:9-10

EPISTLE: Philippians 2:5-11

THE GOSPEL: Mark 14:1-15, 47

THE OFFERING

COMMENDATION OF PARENTS AND SPONSORS:

P: The church commends you for your faithfulness in the Christian training of these young women and these young men. Since their Baptism, you have prayed for them, brought them to God’s house for worship, and have taught the essentials of the Christian faith. Though today they make public confession of their faith, your encouragement and prayers remain important to them. Will you continue in fervent prayer for them, and as it is appropriate, support them in their Christian faith and life in Jesus Christ, their Lord?

Parents and Sponsors: Yes, with the help of God.

COMMUNION: One year ago I wrote a note to the congregation about making choices during the COVID -19 pandemic. The cost of the risk verses the benefit s of the reward. The elders have exercised great caution in regards to worship attendance and communion distribution. Worshippers are still encouraged to wear a mask, even if they are not mandated by the state. Starting on Maundy Thursday, April 1, we will offer The Sacrament of the Altar during the worship service. If you choose to attend we ask you to wear a mask. Individual cups only. If you are not comfortable attending communion this way, Pastor will continue to offer Communion privately. The elders reserve the right to change this if the COVID -19 numbers change in the county. Communion will be offered on Easter in the late worship service.

INDIVIDUAL or SMALL GROUP COMMUNION IS AVAILABLE. Please schedule an appointment with Lisa.
