Computer

How was the phrase "Computer bug" invented?

Originally computers were half a block large, and the other half of the block was just a power source for the computer. Instead of wires and electronic signals, the opening and closing of vacuum pipes would signal the programs and other limited applications that ran on this SUPER-computer. On average, this computer would run for 2 hours straight, and then require an 8 hour break in between. This computer held all the important information of the navy. One day, out of the blue, the computer crashed and would refuse to continue working. The rear admiral of the navy was quite perplexed by this occurrence. One night when she went home, the privates under her command came with some extravagant news. They had found a bug in the computer. And when they said this, they meant literally that they had found a dead moth stuck in one of the opening and closing of the vacuum pipes. That is how the phrase "computer bug" was invented. This bug was taped into the instruction manual of the computer and can still be found in the national archives of the United States.
