Carolyn's Angel Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 5 c Flour
  • 3 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 3 Tb Sugar
  • 1 c Crisco
  • 2 c Buttermilk
  • 2 pkg Yeast
  • 1/2 c Warm Water (for Yeast)

Directions

  1. Set oven to 400 degrees
  2. Mix Warm Water and Yeast, add 1 Tb Sugar
  3. Combine Flour, Baking Powder, Baking Soda, Salt, remaining Sugar
  4. Add Crisco to the dry ingredients and cut the fat into the dry ingredients with a pastry blender, a fork, or two knives.
  5. Add Buttermilk and Yeast-Water, kneading into a dough
  6. Let rise for 1 hr
  7. Gently roll out dough to 1-1 1/2 in thickness
  8. Cut with 2 in biscuit cutter
  9. Bake at 400 for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown
