This species occurs in the mountains of southern California. It is quite similar to H. abramsii, but generally occurs at lower elevations and has slightly exserted stamens and styles. It tends to be intermediate in hirsuteness between H. elegans and H. abramsii (which is usually puberulent on the petioles), but this character is somewhat unstable as in H. abramsii. These pictures come from cultivated plants from Sugarloaf Mountain.
