This species is found on the Front Ranges from central to southern Colorado. There is an isolated report from northern New Mexico. Northwards it is replaced by H. bracteata, to which it is closely related (as evidenced more by the leaves than the flowers). It has the somewhat rare color (for the genus) of snow-white. The floral pictures are taken from cultivated plants collected in a southern station in Colorado, while the habit shot is from a wild population in a more northerly station.
