This is a very rare species on Mount Baldy and some adjacent alpine mountain tops in southern California. It tends to grow as a strongly dwarfed "carpet" like some alpine H. parvifolia. It is very similar to H. parishii of lower elevations, but the stamens and styles are not at all exserted (in H. parishii they are moderately exserted).

These images come from the type locality (immediately below the peak of Mount Baldy), which I visited in 2011.
