Heuchera caespitosa

This is one of the rarest species of Heuchera. While this species has been lumped into the better known H. elegans recently (the combined species retaining the name H. caespitosa owing to nomenclatural priority), these two species differ in some respects that are difficult to observe on herbarium specimens. For one thing H. caespitosa in the strict sense is tetraploid. There are also some subtle aspects of floral form that distinguish them, all of which require fresh or rehydrated material.
