This species occurs in the Siskiyou Mountains of northern California and southern California. While the flowers are very similar to those of H. maxima and H. pilosissima, and previously these have been classified together, they do not appear to be closely related. These photographs come from the type locality of "H. pringlei", a Rydberg species that does not seem worth recognizing. Interestingly, the carnivorous plant Darlingtonia grows in large patches nearby. The first two shots are from cultivation; otherwise the photographs are from nature.
