Jordan wanted to go to Helsinki. Penny and I wanted to go to Budapest. We compromised and booked flights to Milan. Our flight left at 6am, so we planned to go to Berlin the night before.
Jordan went to visit Bavaria the day before our flight was supposed to leave. He arrived back about 2 hours before the bus to Berlin left. So we packed quickly and ran to the bus.
Which would have worked out well. But there was an accident on the highway, and we ended up 6 hours late. So we got to Berlin at 1am.
It was impossible to get from the bus to the hotel that was near Schonenfeld Airport, so we took an Uber. The driver didn’t speak much english, and we ended up lost. The hotel was 4 km away from the airport (not as advertised). Google maps kept trying to take us through a field. Our Uber driver kept trying to get us to get out of the car. In the middle of the field, with no real idea of how to get to the hotel.
We finally find the hotel at 2am after paying the Uber driver 68 euros. Which is nuts.
After 2 hours of sleep, I awoke to figure out how we were actually going to get to the airport. I check my phone to find out the flight is canceled. There are no flights out for the next few days. Our trip to Milan is a no go. Solid no.
So we cancel everything, try to get as much money as we can back, and make plans to get breakfast with Jessica. We then get back on a train (we are done with buses for now… it was a rough ride) and head back to Halle.
Travel is not always smiles and great moments.
