Diego Comes to Berlin!

I lived in Washington for 6 years and no one came to visit (that’s a lie, my mom came). Apparently this will be different in Germany. Diego came to Berlin with friends, and he wasn’t even the first visitor. So I stopped over in Berlin (1.5 hours from my place) to hang out.

Diego, amongst many things (great friend, solid drinker, metal fan) is a botanist extraordinaire! So he wanted to go to the Botanical Gardens. And I complied. His 4 friends tagged along.

If you look closely, there is an Ecuadorian in there.

One of the coolest things about the gardens was the conservatory/greenhouse thingy. I went to take a photo of it in all its splendor, but there was a gardener bending over and her butt got into my photo. So I told Diego that it would be a great photo if there wasn’t a photographer’s ass in the way. She heard me. And speaks English.

I got the photo without the butt. But it was a little embarrassing.

At some point I became bored with the greenhouse. Luckily there was a cafe, and I brought a book. View from my cup of tea, Berlin Botanical Garden edition.

One of the funny things with meeting Diego’s childhood friends was that they were all so in tuned with each other. In the same way traveling with my close friends is easy, it was clear they were all so comfortable with each other. So comfortable and in tuned where they, one of Diego’s friends accidentally wore the exact same outfit. Same pants, same shoes, black metal band tshirts. Amazing.

And in an ode to bee research, here’s a photo of a honey bee.
