Dublin with fellow geneticists

The Society for Molecular Biology and Evolution meeting was in Dublin. I love this meeting, and so I went. Also, I had never been to Dublin. So I made a poster, and headed off to present my work!

And to eat and drink delicious, delicious Irish food/drink.

I stayed an extra day and got out of the city. This is on the way to Galway, which was glorious. This geology baffled me, the rocks are the only stable thing in this photo the rest is peat.

I so love this image from Galaway.

And ultimately we ended up at the Cliffs of Moher. These have some sort of hyperbolic term, like the highest cliffs that are still associated with Europe, or are the highest cliffs on an island that faces the atlantic. But despite their title, they are stunning. And unfortunately the site of an alarming number of suicides.

No interest in jumping from this one. I loved my walk along the cliffs, even with the rain.

And then magically the sun comes out. Ireland.

This castle was on the way back to Dublin. I have no idea what it is, or what it’s about, but it looks really really Irish. And stunning.
