Still feeling restless after my trip to Poland I started planning ridiculous trips. I wasn’t able to focus at work because I kept looking at places to go. I started by googling “Top 10 places you have to see in Germany” and cross referencing multiple sites. One place that consistently popped up was Lubeck, which I have never been to.
So, I suggested to Hazar that we go, and Naomi expressed interest in joining us.
We booked train tickets, got a hotel room, packed our bags and got on the train. When we arrived in Lubeck, Hazar asked me “so what is there in this place?” If that’s not trust I don’t know what is.
Best part about Lubeck? Great seafood. It’s one of the things I miss while in Berlin, there is no good seafood.
But it also turns out to be a delightful little town. This was the view from our flat. I can’t tell you what I love about these rooftops, but I find them stunning.
Meanwhile, on the ground you had all these lovely yachts.
The Rathaus (German for townhall) looks like something straight out of Harry Potter.
Besides seafood, it is the marzipan capital in Germany, and they have awesome displays of marzipan. As well as many different flavors of chocolate marzipan bars.
They also had a miniature version you can take home with you. I bought a LOT of chocolate covered marzipan.
And then we got marzipan cake with hot chocolate with marzipan in it.
The town is an interesting blend of VERY old German, and even older Dutch.
The Dutch can be seen in this building for example (the Dutch were early benefactors of the slave trade).
Hazar and I were told there is a great view from the top of this church, so we went to check it out. And for some reason, the church was filled with these huge balls. Hazar for size comparisons.
The whole church was filled with them.
From the top of the church we spotted the old city gate. Which to be clear was SUPER cool looking.
And more impressive up close.
Not sure why this needed to be said...
Lubeck was a delight, will happily come back some day.
