Adding 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons to Gonzo Gaming
In keeping the Gonzo Gaming system up to date, we have included the following information to help any level of GM convert 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons rulesets to standard d20.
The basics of the philosophy is kind of at odds with Gonzo philosophy. To that end, it’s quite simple:
Get rid of the idea of bounded accuracy.
Embrace over-the-top stupid combos.
One major thing is to remember which splatbook/edition/style the PC is starting with. As with all things, if they want cheaper access to 5e half-ASI feats, it’d be best for them to start with a character from that edition.
5e DnD Specific Pointers To Keep In Mind:
-You may NOT stack Toughness with other HP improving feats/abilities
-5e Toughness is changed to: “HP Total is immediately doubled. Whenever you gain a level thereafter, your hit point maximum increases by an additional 2 hit points. ”
-All feats that also improve an ability score purchased outside of leveling costs 25 Style Points. If you give up an ASI, you may still acquire a feat with an ASI in it.
-Due to the complexity of mixing systems, the GM will have to consider character progression solutions for the entire party. Will everyone utilize XP leveling or MIlestones?
General Pointers To Keep In Mind:
-All feats (unless stated otherwise) can stack with all other feats and abilities from any other gaming system AS PER THE GM’S DISCRETION.
-Discuss with the GM regarding usage of 5e game system functions versus other functions. This includes artificing. It is ultimately up to the GM how this should best be addressed for their individual world and game setting.
-GM’s: When remixing game system functions, please be aware that you might be overpowering an already overpowered game system. For instance, combining functions from both 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons with Pathfinder 2.0, you may end up creating a certifiable loophole that the gamers may find and exploit. BE PREPARED FOR THIS - you screwed with it, now you should accept it! As always, never screw with the Rule of Cool and Rule of Badassed…unless you wanna.
You’re the GM, do whatever ya gotta do. Just remember to do it with style!
