Production Notes
What I want to remind myself of during production
Clean Sound. Dislike Garage Band sound quality
Hit the Vocals with the Beat, Feel the beat match the words..
Crisp Vocals. Bold the Rhymes when singing. Cut the end of the word off.. don't slur
Stay relaxed and play naturally. Put emotion and feeling into your performance.
Songs act as rough Sketch to ideas, Songs can be re-arranged or re-written to fit the beat... The beat is harder to re-write to fit the lyrics.
Violin/Cello/Guitar/Piano/Bass-Beat/Minimal Snare
Beats in Triplicate, Urban beat with retro sounds (piano, Cello, Violin)
Keep it Universal, nothing Risky..
Try to epiphany near the end of most songs
Build/Build/Build Then Release...
Don't settle for a filler song.
If unable to accomplish what you want, you have other choices.
Over 3:30 all songs (Hate short songs)
Be objectionable... I realize I might suck :)
Money should take 2nd place to your goal
Shared Vision of producer?
There are songs for you. Do what sounds good to you.. not what you think sounds good to others!!
Taste is subjective.
Not everything has to Rhyme.. But I like it that way :)
Don't forget the slowdown before the final peak of the song.
Proper voice levels over music (Too much voice over music and vice versa ruins songs).. drowns out
Words that flow without music is poetry.
Don't push it. Never feel bad about calling it a day if you feel "off". When u rush is when your quality sucks.
Believe in your voice, watch the monotone flats
Listen to music on various different sound systems
I like Echos :)
I like Left to Right Speaker exchange to enunciate the point.
Not gonna be easy :(
If you are working with a producer, give them a demo of the songs you want to record in the studio. Discuss production ideas ahead of time, and set aside reference Cds that serve as good examples of production styles you are striving for. Map out track assignments if you are recording to tape.
Add Guitar 'downs' in songs
