Guilt Free Society
Where guilt is no longer the hindrance it once was, society never adopted another means of self control
Remorse, guilt, regret, blameworthy,.. these are all adjectives to modify the noun of the association "feel". I feel guilty, I feel remorse, I shouldn't have done that, I regret my past actions, I will learn from my mistakes. I vow not to do that again. That common basic thought, instilled upon us as a modern moral code in our youth is what many for eons have used to better themselves. To create something of themselves based off past actions, that within self-reflection the character deemed not morally in-line with whom they perceived themselves as the whole. It's the first step to understanding your place within society and the first step to improving oneself based off inadequate actions of their past. That however, was the past.... The new bastardized form of guilt within our modern society is a form of "i'll show you" mixed in with "everyone else is doing it" for the ultimate guilt free form of justification i've ever seen. I'll explain....
What was once an honest right of passage into becoming an adult is now masked with nauseating, repetitive sexual innuendo's, and 1-liners of justification that encompass every moral sin out there today. That no moral sin is now too great or small to simply be washed aside by the modern justification of a "Whatever", or "Not My Problem". The definition of "Whatever" is "A holophrastic expression used discourteously to indicate that the speaker does not consider the matter worthy of further discussion". I find that definition spot on and offensive in it's nature, because it's so correct it allows anyone to use it without the discipline to learn the opposite spectrum of that definition. So callously within our society we use it, that anyone that's ever watched a day-time talk show knows the power of the "whatever" to discount what is brought to them in the form of an argument. Now the lowest common denominator of society now can wield that powerful detractor of an argument as if they have a lifetime discipline of living within the opposite spectrum. And that's to discuss any and all possible angles, nuances, arguments (pro/con) to the fact-of-the-matter. To inundate themselves with other peoples thoughts, observations and opinions while keeping an open mind about the entire topic. To actually have a discussion with your fellow peers, to converse with them, and thus understand them.
Society Doesn't Care
Somewhere between the last few generations of humanity we've become detached to everyone but not everything. Blame TV, Internet, movies, media, etc... it's what we do to avoid placing the blame on us. The Art of conversation is dying within our society. Realize this. We're so hell bent on abbreviating our verbose thoughts into a form of a 1-liner witticism that the meaning between the words gets lost on all of us. Like trying to tell stand up comedy through a text message on a cell phone, the art of human presence and fluidity has been replaced by single syllable replies, and shallow, hollow sentence fragments that are just a repeat of something society's heard elsewhere. Never unique or new, here's the problem with this. Society as a whole simply repeats what the whole does without looking deeper within themselves to ask "is this me". And after a while, that pattern that they repeat becomes them without them knowing the pattern has taken over. I understand it feels good to belong to a crowd, to think you understand the rhythm of life, and others. But simply mirroring what others are doing without any personal introspective requires little to no power of thought. Monkey see, Monkey do. And thus requires very little of "you".
That's unfortunately what society is doing. Killing off themselves, to simply repeat the message of the masses. Let me explain, as that line pretty much attacks everyone, and since society sees every attack as an attack on themselves (since 'they' as a whole are too insecure to exclude themselves from generalizations) more then likely the masses would use an Ad Hominem attack upon society as leverage for a personal vendetta against me. The weak protect the weak. Society is set up to cater to the poor. Middleclass is dead, the rich get richer, the dumb get dumber... We all know those justifications, but now instead of placing the blame on the poor performance of society on ourselves, we divert it to the blameless, the faceless and the nameless.
Whatever, the mortgage broker steered us wrong and that's why our home is in foreclosure.
I'm pregnant, jobless, with no support system or family support... Whatever, everyone else is having a kid, so will I. Government will support it.
Whatever, yeah so I got fired. That job sucked anyways.
I can't stand people at my job, whatever i'll quit and find a better place
Whatever, you're just jealous
Whatever, they don't want to talk to me?! I won't talk to them.
Notice within these few prime modern examples how personal reflection and blame gets pushed off to others. There is no blame within the guiltless. It's a truly unique site to behold when I sit and reflect upon it. Billions of people living out their lives without guilt and thus without the ability to see themselves as anything but infallible. This also has deeper ramifications other then just to push off their own inadequacies onto society. It also mirrors in their head and thus their body and internal vows. Diet, weight, health, relationships, mood, family, etc all depend upon the ability to personally view/compare yourself and actions in a 3rd party perspective against the societal norm, then to see how far like an 'obtuse cancer' you are sticking out from that normalcy. And then hopefully, if society has raised you right you're able to see changes needed within you to bring you to what you perceive as normal (Or a valued and active member of our society).
Behavioral modification for the greater good of humanity should not be offensive towards anyone.
Oh but it is....Society has somehow ripped off, aka "stolen" the justification of truly unique characters in our past and use that as justification for "I'm not changing for anyone". That after years of hearing how unique Einstein was, or an artist, musician, poet, politician, lawmaker etc, and that if those people changed for society, they would not be whom we appreciate now. But the problem is, nobody is unique anymore, everyone is just weak, repeating what they saw without adding their own personal flair/style/character. Internally, when one uses that "Whatever" justification for themselves, "They are deeming their own thoughts NOT WORTH THE EFFORT to consider/postulate upon". Because of society repeating the routine of copying others, they don't see how that is offensive to the very nature of humanity and your unique consciousness. People are now giving the "Whatever" to themselves! Slowly, after time and enough repetition that unique part of them that questions their own actions internally gets silences... killed off. Guilt dies, creation dies, perspective dies. They die inside.
There's nothing I can do. Pointing out the obvious flaws of society casts me even further aside then I already am. Thus pushing me further outside the box to view those within that box of society even more. It's an interesting phenomon that I never thought would happen. It's as tho society has died, and just like myself,... I never went along for the ride. But it's a hell of a view from here...
