Videos for Learning Home Machining - Free

There are hundreds and hundreds of videos available on the web (and for purchase) which can help you to learn basic machining techniques. On this page I provide links to a selected list of these videos as an aid to to those people who are just getting started in home machining, with the goal of providing the equivalent of a video training class in basic machining methods for the lathe, mill, and other equipment.

Note: If you are leaving a comment, please keep in mind that the purpose of this page is not to include every video on machining, but rather to serve as an overview and introduction to home machining. For these reasons, basic videos which focus on equipment and methods relevant to the hobby machinist are most desired.

    • MIT Tech TV - Prototype Machining
      • A good overview of basic machine shop methods and techniques, covering a wide variety of machine shop equipment. These videos are already organized into a set of courses, so I have merely put the contents in one place for easy access. These videos show "full sized" machine shop equipment, but many of the basic techniques are applicable to the mini-lathes and mini-mills found in the home shop.
