My lathe is a Harbor Freight Model 33684 mini-lathe which I purchased used.
When I purchased my mini-lathe (used for $260 in early 2012), a few things needed to be corrected:
- no chip tray
- 3-jaw chuck missing inside jaws
- speed control knob missing
- tailstock hand-wheel broken
- change gears missing
It did include a dead center and drill chuck for the tailstock and the rear splash guard (removed in the photo).
Since the purchase, I have made a number of improvements and modifications:
- Purchased and installed replacement handwheel for the tailstock
- Made a speed control knob.
- Made a replacement base and chip tray
- Lapped the saddle to improve its fit to the bed
- Replaced the saddle gibs with tapered gibs
- Added a cam-lock to the tailstock
- The tailstock had apparently been previously fitted with a cam-lock, but it was removed when I bought it, so I made a new one.
- Made various adjustment modifications to the tailstock:
- Moved the adjustment locking screw to the top
- Added additional set screws for adjustment
