A Closests to the Pin Marker will be at the specific green being used for the week and is used to collect the names and distances of tee shots that may qualify. There is a sheet and pencil as well as a tape measure with each marker. Arrangements have been made to deploy the marker at the start of each day's play and collect if after everyone has played that hole.
These events are weekly throughout the season.
The event is on the 18 hole course and will take place on a par 3 hole. On even numbered weeks it will be hole#2 and odd number weeks, hole #11
Week1 is the date deemed to be the first week of Gaffers Cup play. Week 2 will follow irrespective of whether Week1 is a 'No Play Day'.
The specific hole to be used any week will be shown in the Gaffers Dashboard and in the Group email announcement.
A marker board will be deployed at the selected hole for players to indicate a possible winner.
Only tee shots that come to rest on the green are eligible
The player's first and last name should be written on the paper form with the measured distance to the nearest point of the hole (rim)
The marker should be placed off the green to avoid affecting later shots that land on the green.
If a tee shot hits the marker that is off the green and the ball ends up on the green, it is treated as a qualifying shot.
If a following group has a player get closer than the marker data currently shows, the player's name and distance are written below the ones already there.
There is a tape measure on the marker to allow careful measurements.
The distance is measured from the lip of the hole to the closest edge of the ball.
The player whose tee shot ends up closest to the pin is the winner for that week.
If no slips are returned there can be no declared winner.
A fixed amount is budgeted each year for the Closest to the Pin event.
Prizes are awarded at the end of the season.
In case there are very few 'wins' in a season, there will be a maximum value for any single win
