Should any group, having completed at least 14 holes, decide as a group to not finish the round due to adverse weather conditions (See Local Rule #1), they may mark their score card with a “DNF” (did not finish) instead of the total for the round.
When entering scores for players that invoked Local Rule #1, only the holes played (minimum 14) are entered and holes that were not played left blank (tab over or click on the back 9 sub-total)_The actual sub-total of the holes played is entered into the Back Nine Total.
Scores will be adjusted by the scoring system plugging scores for each player in the holes they did not finish. A players “DNF” scores will based on their average scores from the completed holes in the current round. These rounds will be deemed to have been finished for the purpose of determining whether or not the 40% participation threshold has been met.
The scorer enters all scores for players provided they have completed at least 14 holes. If players did not complete 14 holes none of their hole by hole scores will be entered.
In the background of the scoring system when players have scores entered for hole 14, but not for hole 18 the system calculates scores to plug for the holes where a player did not finish (DNF)
The calculation involves determining the “par rate” that a player had played at so far. So 14 or more holes were played, a calculation is performed to produce a target 18 hole score.
This example is based on the following scenario:
a player has scored 77 up to and including hole 15.
The sum of pars for those holes is 59.
Holes 16, 17 are pars 5, 3
the course par is 72.
How the system determines the target score
Total up to last hole played * course par / total of pars for the holes played.
Using the example data above
77 * 72 / 59 = 93.9 rounded to 94
The system then calculates what remaining hole by hole scores are needed to achieve that Total (94).
DNF hole scores are produced by taking a proportion of the target total based on par for the hole then rounded target score needed * par for that hole / course par
To continue the example, for hole 16 (par 5) and 17 (par 3)
Hole 16 score will be: 94 * 5 / 72 = 6.5 (rounded to 7)
Hole 17 score will be: 94 * 3 / 72 = 3.9 (rounded to 4)
To avoid the fact that rounding the calculation for the 18th hole could affect the target total, its score is set to the difference remaining to get to the target score
target score - actual hole scores - calculated DNF scores
94 - 77 - 11 = 6
When the scores are “posted” at the deadline, the system plugs the calculated scores for players with DNF scores as though the scorer had keyed them directly.
A count of the number of unfinished holes for a player is created adjacent to the total for the round and that column is made visible.
