eHandicap

Important  Note re: eHandicap website

Due to licensing constraints with the World Handicap System (WHS), eHandicap does not provide their regular contracting clubs the latest playing handicap calculation.

So whilst your handicap index (shown on the eHandicap site as Club Index) could still be correct if adjusted Gross Scores have been entered correctly, the handicap they offer for your home course (Doon 18, 9 or Rockway) is several shots different from WHS standards. In my case it is 5 or 6 shots lower using WHS than eHandicap shows. This will be common for most KitchenerGolf members.

Also note that now, you should avoid using their "Hole-By-Hole" score entry. It used the be the best way of getting an Adjusted Gross Score, but now it still uses the old maximum allowance criteria and will be doing it with a higher handicap than you should be using. These things have a marginal impact, but you should be aware of them.

If you are playing a casual game using handicaps, make sure everyone in the group is using a 'handicap' calculated in the same manner!

The reason is that alhough there are some other nuances in the calculations, the WHS handicap is calculated that someone 'playing to their handicap' should achieve "par" for the course. Prior to 2020 the handicap was targetted at the rating. So if you had a good round, your WHS net score should be around par (Doon 18 - 72) whereas prior to WHS, a good round should get a net score of around the rating for the Tees from which you played  (Doon 18, White tee were 67.6). So you can see why there is an appreciable difference under WHS.

So in 2019 a player with a handicap of 22 could shoot a 'good' round (e.g. 90) and get a net of 68 - slightly over the rating. In 2020 that same player would likely have a handicap of 17 and the same score of 90 would work out to a net of 73, or 1 over par.

As our Gaffers handicaps are based solely on Gaffers play, and also are adjusted for the fact that not all players use the same tees during Gaffers rounds, they were often not the same as that shown on eHandicap anyway.

The site link below will calculate a playing handicap for a round at any course.

In addition to your handicap index (eHandicap calls it Club Index), you need to know the rating, slope, and par for the tees from which you will play.
