Guidelines
The League's target group is men 55 years of age or over. The purpose of the league is to enjoy both the game of golf and the fellowship. There is a limit of 60 members.
Fees will be $45 and will be collected at the beginning of the season.
Members must recognize that slow play affects everyone. Please play ready golf!
All correspondence by email.
In order to operate in a manner which is both fair and fun for golfers of all levels, we follow the Rules of Golf as approved by Golf Canada.
Local Rules as established by Kitchener Golf combined with others created by the Gaffers Committee (which are specific to our league) are all documented as "Local Rules" on this site.
To resolve disputes please refer to the Rules of Golf or the CPGA Club Pro.
Summary of the fun games:
Through the season there are these contests for all members to enjoy. Each of these events described in more detail in the Events section. The underlined names below can also be clicked to see the detail.
Gaffers Cup - points are accumulated during the season and the winner is the member with most points. Each Wednesday the total net score of each member playing is ranked from lowest to highest and points are awarded. Points accumulated will be rewarded at year end.
Skins - number of skins per player is accumulated through the season. The winner of each hole is the player with the lowest net score of all the members who played that week.
Closest-to-the-Pin - weekly event
Two Man Better Ball - a two man team event with the winning team being the one with most points for the season
Match Play Event- a knock-out competition, where everyone can play a match format event. There is a Consolation event for those that lose in their first draw.
General Notes for clarification:
Please review all the current Local Rules for more information.
Adverse Weather (see Local Rulea: #1):
Should any Wednesday group, having completed at least 14 holes, decide as a group not to finish the round due to adverse weather conditions, they may mark their score card with a “DNF” (did not finish). The scorer for the group leaves those holes blank (does not enter zero) and enters the back nine total for the scores actually entered. The Scoring System will automatically adjust the score for the round.
Gaffers Handicaps (see Local Rules: #2)
The Doon Senior Men’s League uses a modified handicap system for the purposes of our programs. A player’s handicap produced by this system would not be legitimate for use in any other event. If you anticipate playing in events, other than those hosted by our League, you should maintain a separate handicap in some officially recognized handicap system.
Scores and Scoring (see Local Rules #3, #11)
Always record your hole by hole "gross" score (without Equitable Stroke Control adjustments) on the scorecard. If you 'pick up' the maximum score of 10 must be used.
To be included in a week's results, scores must be entered in the online system which all players can access through the Dashboard. All groups need to ensure while they are playing, that one of them will enter the scores by 5pm.
Tees (see Local Rules: #5)
League play uses the 'Doon Championship 18' and involves submission of scores for the Gaffers round on the member's declared tee (red/white/blue) using Gaffers tee-time block. The default Tee block is White.
You must play all holes in the round from the same tees.
If you need to change your designated tees, please contact Rick Lugg so that the scoring system can be updated.
