The Daily Food Safety Checklist (Appendix H.) will be filled out every day of harvest by field supervisor and includes a Harvest Crew Pre-Inspection regarding training requirements, long nails, wearing of jewelry, signs of illness or disease, and washing hands. Before the start of the shift, the field supervisor will check the field to assess contamination whether it us physical, chemical, biological. They will also look for any animal activity before the start of the shift.
Procedure
The flow chart below shows the process of the risk assessment.
Microbial Water Quality and Condition and Maintenance of Water-Delivery System addressed in 2.04 Irrigation and Water Use
No immersion water is used.
All harvest containers equipment, bins, and packaging materials, and pallets must not be stored in direct contact with the ground (should be on a pallet or piece of cardboard). They should be covered to prevent harboring of rodents and other animals. No toxic substances shall be in the same storage vicinity as harvest containers, bins, and packaging materials.
All harvest containers equipment, bins, and packaging materials, and pallets must be inspected prior to use and periodically during packing process. If signs of contamination are observed, they will be noted on as part of the pre-harvest risk assessment on the daily food checklist and then on the contamination log. If single use containers boxes or packing materials are contaminated, they will be discarded. If the container is made of a non-porous cleanable materials, it may be washed and sanitized prior to use provided the cleaning is documented in the Harvest Cleaning Log (Appendix D.)
Single use cardboard boxes,
Single use plastic clamshells,
Single Use plastic bags
and reusable plastic totes, buckets, or RPC's
other equipment may be used, such as wheelbarrows, provided that the food contact surface is visually inspected and made of a non-porous cleanable material.
Re-purposed harvesting containers, bins, and packaging materials must be cleaned and sanitized prior to use. Sanitation solutions must meet the USDA National Organic Program criteria set forth in Section 205.601(a) .
If harvest container are to be used for a different purpose, they must be labeled "not for harvest" or identified as not as harvest in a different method, ie. color schemes.
