Bacterial Analysis
Records of bacterial analysis for fecal coliforms and E.coli shall be maintained for each lot of compost or BSAAO applied
The FDA‐issued proposed rule focuses on biological soil amendments of animal origin because of the potential for these types of soil amendments to contaminate produce with pathogens of public health concern. Biological soil amendments of animal origin must be handled, conveyed, and stored in a manner and location such that they do not become a potential source of contamination to covered produce, food-contact surfaces, areas used for a FSMA covered activity, water sources, water distribution systems, and other soil amendments.
If the above threshold are not met, the treated or processed BSAAO may not be used.
Heavy Metal Testing
Certificates of analyses for heavy metals (Cadmium (Cd) Arsenic (As), Chromium (Cr), Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg),Nickel (Ni), and Vanadium (V) shall accompany all compost and BSAAO products applied.
