What does the discovery of the Higgs boson mean?
A new particle with a mass of 125 GeV was recently discovered by ATLAS and CMS collaborations at the LHC. The properties of this new particle look very similar to the
Higgs boson of the Standard Model. In the colloquium I will discuss the implications
of this discovery - what the Higgs boson is, why it plays a special role in the structure
of the Standard Model, how well do we know that the discovered particle resembles
the Higgs boson and the future directions of the research.
