Background

The story goes that Irik is the eldest child of Vulsh, and chafed under his father. As he grew, so did his bitterness, resulting in a final "battle"--though various translations make it fairly clear this was not a battle in the sense of armies or combatants--and the eventual break between the two. Though this happened long, long ago, bitterness between the two is still very, very strong.

His followers are thought to be an estranged tribe of Vulshik that founded, or discovered, their own pillar somewhere in the wilds of the marsh nearer to human lands than any Vulshik should willingly go. Steady but intermittent raids have kept tensions between the two societies high, though many Vulshik probably do not even realize they are being raided by members of a pillar different than their own.
