Chapter LXIII
in which a wild Dionastran appears
The Other Side of the City
Shaken up by being ambushed, Glad is eager to know what steps are being taken to remedy the blunder and what improvements are being made to the army's scouting effort. He's shocked to discover that a manpower shortage means that the unseen other half of the city is not actually being surveilled. Glad convinces the Foxes to take a quick jaunt. They circle around the city, careful to stay out of reach of danger, and notice tracks leading on the nearby beach that lead into a series of cave tunnels and an occult magical signature that Glad is unable to identify. With the help of a magician from somewhere beyond the rift, the Foxes teleport in a small contingent of Chracioite forces and begin combing the network of caves. Along the way, Haas is able to convince a Westerner soldier to defect and Glad feeds another to the pit. The Foxes' search yields the recovery of some greenscale prisoners and the capture of the Dionastran who was torturing them with occult magic, done without much of a fight thanks to the Foxes' new magician friend who uses a flesh-to-stone spell to subdue the Dionastran.
Duke Okmark
...
On Swift Wings
In the aftermath of the Dionastran's death, Glad pulls what intel he can from the corpse's past life and passed that along to Okmark, learning that the legionnaire he talked with believed the Dionastran represented Dionastra, that the Dionastran thought he was, in some way, pulling a fast one on the legionnaire, and that it actually didn't matter to him that the abducted greenscales be attuned to Emeri. The group decides that their next course of action should be to treat with Esseldi. Thanks to Okmark's patronage, they're able to travel their via a condor tugged floating raft. Along the way, they detour at Paraxos wherein Glad and Red collect feathers and Bobby creates some mercantile contacts.
