Seminar Marine Renewables: Turning the tide

This event organised by the Scottish Government, Scotland Europa and the EU Ocean Energy Association (EU-OEA) will explore real progress in the development of wave and tidal power and the role of ocean energy sources in satisfying the EU's future energy needs.

The event will examine the EU-OEA's Roadmap for ocean energy, focusing in particular on the practical deployment of marine renewables technology and the issues which need to be tackled to develop the fledgling sector commercially in the EU as we look to a 2050 EU Energy Vision. The session will include high-level speakers from the UK, Scotland, Ireland, France and Portugal, and will be chaired by the EU-OEA. The event will consider the following themes:-

  • Wave and tidal devices generating energy now and a consideration of transmission/grid requirements;
  • The development of a strategic, longer-term and integrated approach to deployment and demonstration projects, to identify clear priorities and projects for joint action;
  • Addressing non-technological barriersto developmentof ocean power(the policy environment, skills, infrastructure and financing).

The event will conclude with an evening reception hosted by the new Scottish European Green Energy Centre (SEGEC) and launch of an exhibition of case studies of sustainable energy initiatives from public, private and academic actors in Scotland.
