You loose your backpack to an outstretched arm, wielding it like a club, and swing it at one lizard while kicking at the other. The one you hit with the pack flies several feet back, while the one you kick yelps in surprised pain and backs away, hissing. The little girl springs up and punches the hissing one with surprising force on the side of its head, causing it to drop. The other one rights itself and starts to charge her as you step forward and wallop it again with your pack. The lizard, outnumbered, turns and scrambles away, hissing as previous one had. From the corner of your eye you see the girl fall back to the ground, clutching her ankle. You can see that it's twisted, but you also hear hissing coming from the tunnel behind you. You grab the girl and pick her up. She's very light, and you guess about ten years old. Her clothes are a soft, spongy material, like the the moss you passed when you first entered the cave, likely made of the same stuff.
She squints at the headlamp and swats it off your head, for the light is too bright. As you pick it up, she pulls your backpack off and climbs onto your back and begins gesturing to go forward. You follow her lead as she guides you along a series of tunnels. At first you think she's picking random tunnels, but slowly begin to realize that she knows where she is, as the tunnels tend to continue up. There's no way you would have managed this path on your own. After a few minutes, the hissing has stopped and you slow from a jog to a walk. The girl keeps covering your lamp. When you try to move her hands so you can see, she slaps them away. As you started to get annoyed, you realize that you can actually see just fine without the lamp. The moss growing on the walls here has a luminescent quality. You quickly stow the lamp in your pack, which you now wear on your front, and continue letting the girl guide you.
After another ten minutes of walking, you spot a tunnel off to your left that is glowing. "Sunlight!" you think happily. But the girl stops you and gestures for you to go down a different, darker tunnel.
