You stand up and walk over to the column in the center of the room and push again. The rock practically crumbles in your hands. You kick it several times and immediately can hear the creaking and popping come more loudly and continuously than before. You kick it once more as the lizard appears from the shaft, but it is immediately crushed by a falling rock. You turn to run down a side path, but find it also blocked by debris.
You cover your head now as pebbles and dust begin to fill the room. Larger rocks fall all around you, and you know that any moment one of them could land on you, killing you instantly. Looking around for a way out, you spot the water channel moving through the room. You take a deep breath, run for it and dive in. As you do, you hear the entire chamber collapse behind you.
The collapse causes the water to surge, forcing you even faster down the dark channel. You find yourself a human bullet, hurtling to a place you can only hope will let you get out, or at least come up for air.
Sometimes sharp rocks stick out, cutting into your arms and sides. It's very narrow, but never so narrow that you wedge. Your lungs burn, but you refuse to give in, waiting for what seems like an eternity three times over.
At last, when you feel like you cannot hold your breath any longer, you see light up ahead. The water slows and the channel widens. Using the last of your strength, you paddle up to the light, and discover that you have left the caves and tunnels, and are now in a stream running alongside a road.
With some difficulty, you are able to get over to the side of the stream and pull yourself out of the water to rest and recover. You wait for an hour, but finally a car comes along and gives you a ride back to the town you were staying at. You are safe, and pretty certain it will be a long time before you go into a cave again.
The End.
