Investigate:
1. Project ideas
Describe 3-4 or more possible project ideas. You can adapt projects that you find of sites such as Instructables, Thingiverse or Hack a Day or even better describe you own idea.
For each idea:
Include 2-3 images with descriptions or annotations
Write a description of the project. (1 -2 paragraphs)
Evaluate the feasibility of this project explain what CAD software and CAM equipment you might use.
Explain how you might make this project you own. How you could adapt it.
2. Research Task:
Research into the CAD or CNC processes that you plan to use. So if you want to 3D print you will have to find out all you can abut 3D printing.
eg:
What Software is needed?
What materials can be cut or printed?
What are the size constraints?
What type of machine(s) do you have access to?
Complete some general research to gain an understanding of how these process are being used in the "real world'.
What industries use this technology?
What products are being made?
What does the future hold?
3. Tests and Reflection
For and above and well above the level you should write an evaluation after your have completed your project that reflects upon the effectiveness of your research.
For example:
Was your research useful?
Did you find out all you needed in order to make your product?
What additional information did you need
Where/how did you find this information
Design and complete some kind of testing to establish hoe good you final product.
Consider doing a field trial where you use the product for a short while to see if it performs as expected.
Suggest ways in which you could improve your finished product.
Complete all of the above in Word name it "Investigation" and submit to Compass.
Remember to check the instructional rubric as BEFORE submitting!
Design:
This section is where you design your project ready to be manufactured.
1. Design sketches
Hand draw some concept sketches for you project. Annotate these to describe:
Materials
Dimensions
Assembly instructions (if needed)
What CAM might be used.
Scan and insert into a Word.docx called "Designs". Submit on Compass.
2. Design your project using CAD.
Using a CAD package that you researched during the Investigate stage, design your project ready for CAM.
You will have to consider how it will be manufactured and how it will be assembled.
You will probably need to complete some tutorial exercises to learn the basics of you chosen software.
Fusion 360 and the 123D Apps may be your best best option for most projects. Your teacher may suggest another CAD software or you may decide on your own. (Blender, Sketch-up, Meshmixer etc)
Name you designs appropriately and submit on Compass.
Produce
In order to get the higher levels for this element of the project you should build an closed loop systems. That is one that can operate independently without human intervention. Is has some kind of control system.
The best projects will include both mechanical systems and electronic systems.
Build your project and record the build process along the way. Take photographs or videos and use these to reflect upon the build process.
Take photographs and a video of your completed project and submit this work on Compass.
