Night Breeze Electric Motor Experiments

Due to the issues with the gas engine, I finally decided to investigate and explore electric propulsion.

Solution:

Torqeedo 4R 10HP electric motor driven by 4 marine grade deep cycle batteries. The batteries are stored in the aft cockpit locker, and charged with a 48V charger.

Performance:

The electric motor drives the boat at reasonable speed, achieving 4-5mph with reasonable battery drain (about 1 hour range). However, the motor (partially due to placement) lacks sufficient power to back the boat into a strong wind. At modest power levels, the batteries should last up to two hours of run time.
