Port Engine
Marine Power model "454 L25", Serial number 782490W
Water Pumps
G45 Sherwood
Water pump "minor repair kit" SHE-23976, purchased from Marine Parts Source (also available through Jamestown Distributors)
Lip seals - #10514 (lip seal for Sherwood G45 pump) - purchased - but there don't appear to be any of these on the water pump.
Ed also replaced the water pump bearings, that were not part of the minor repair kit (bearings purchased locally, $10 each, 2xpump)
Carburetor kits - ordered from BFIC Fuel Systems, Burbank CA. (CarbsOnly.com)
Ignition - Electronic (confirmed)
Belts: (alternator and water pump)
Dayco 17330
Dayco 17450
Raw water hose - 1.25" inside diameter - SHIELD, SHI-250-1144, 12' length, $87 + $20 shipping, Jamestown Marine
Starters (?? Need to research this more!)

Props - 4 blade 22x22 (as per previous survey for "High Mesa II"
Projects done for the engines:
Carburetors rebuilt before the boat was hauled out for the bottom job.
Raw Water pumps rebuilt.
Belts replaced.
Raw water hose replaced.
Port internal water circulation pump replaced. (Depco pump)
Thermostats replaced (port - pending on starboard)
Starters replaced (port and starboard)
Mechanical fuel pumps replaced with electric fuel pumps (port and starboard)
Distributor cap and rotors replaced (port and starboard)
Port engine, port side lifters replaced
Port engine intake manifold replaced (with Edelbrock high performance aluminum intake)
Exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold to water lifter repaired (port and starboard) - both had a seam crack in the middle of the pipe. Were advised to revisit this, using JB Weld instead of exhaust tape (the tape is fine on cars, but we were told that boat engines vibrate too much for it to last).
Port engine, pulled heads to go to machine shop.
Compression numbers:
Starboard Engine: Generally fair compression. Zero or low compression on opposite side cylinders probably due to stuck lifters. Compression test on 1-10-21

Port Engine: General low compression, zero compression on adjacent cylinders (#1 and #3) - Possibly head gasket, bad valves for 0 compression, stuck rings for low compression. Compression test on 1-17-20

Oil trick... At Jerry N's advice, re-ran compression test on Port engine (also using different compession gauge). Process: With all spark plugs out, took compression reading, added about an ounce of 15W40 oil, then cycled and re-read compression tester. If the pressure was zero consistently - probably stuck valve. If compression increases - then it's probably stuck rings (apply oil, or Marvel Mystery Oil, let sit for several days, retest, repeat). This was run on port engine on 1-23-31.
0 oil -> 0
50 oil -> 60
0 oil -> 0
50 oil -> 80
45 oil -> 55
40 oil -> 50
25 oil -> 35
45 oil -> 90
Re-Tested Starboard engine (still 1-23-31) - with oil test
# 2: 0 oil -> 0
# 5 0 oil -> 0
# 8 50 oil -> 90
Only tested the cylinders that were low. The cylinders that were previously at 0 compression stayed at 0 compression. The #8 cylinder initially tested at 50psi (down from 95 psi previously), but increased from 50 to 90 psi after adding oil to the cylinder.

Valve job and resurface: $250 + parts (for 454)
Seals: $35/set
Valves: $8-15 / valve
Includes checking for cracks
Cracked heads cannot be repaired (at S. Austin Machine) - just buy a new head. They do not sell them.
Typical turnaround on heads is about 1-2 weeks In this case, it took 3 weeks due to the freeze event, and waiting for parts.
Cost for both heads was $450
