DJI_Spark

The DJI Spark is a nice compromise for a hobbiest seeking an easy to fly drone for taking pictures and videos.

I bought mine in March, 2018. At that time, the drone itself was about $350. For $600 (tax included), you could get the "Fly More" combo kit. This is STRONGLY recommended as it includes the drone, 2 batteries, charger, remote control, propeller guards, spare props, and a nice carry case.

Observations:

    • The "fly more combo" does NOT include the plastic landing gear. Getting a set of landing gear is an additional $25 accessory that can be ordered on Amazon. For indoor flying, the landing gear are not needed. And I guess if you do palm launch and recover, you don't need them at all?

    • One would expect that at least beginning pilots would want to put the propeller guards on and LEAVE them on. For that matter, I really can't imagine why even experienced pilots, at least the cautious one... wouldn't fly with them - just in case. HOWEVER - the Spark will NOT fit in the nifty carry case (either the foam one that it comes in, nor the travel case that fits the controller) with the prop guards on. I guess it's "not cool" to fly with the prop guards?

    • The cable to connect the RC unit to the phone / tablet is NOT included in the combo kit - you need to BUY one separately.

    • STARTUP:

      • Power up Drone - let it stabilize.

      • Power up Remote Control Unit - let it stabilize

      • On the phone - enter AIRPLANE mode, enable WIFI

      • Connect the phone to the RC unit. NOTE - HOST on the OTG cable goes to PHONE. Regular connection goes to RC unit.
