Boat Building

There have been several boat building projects in my past...

These started with building small, simple, plywood kayaks.

After those, I built a small plywood skiff / sailboat. It was a fun project, looked cute, and, well, would go downwind reasonably well. <sigh> It did motor well - either with a small outboard or even with an electric trolling motor.

Next project was refinishing the bottom on my Dad's 1962 Thompson Runabout. This project took several years, due to a move, young child, etc, etc....

Several years later, while taking the boat out, a section of outer ply on the bottom came loose and ripped away, leaving a section about one foot square that needed to be repaired.

When you're refinishing an old boat, the thought that always keeps going through your head is "I could build one from SCRATCH faster than all this sanding and rework..."

I had been wanting to build a small, attractive, fast little sports-car of a boat for many years. After many years, life provided an opportunity to give it a try. All the previous experiences and learnings eventually led to building "Mischief", based on the William Jackson design called "Playboy". This is a 13' plywood runabout.
