Captain Daniel Webster Roberts,  Oct. 10, 1841 - Feb. 6, 1935

Captain Roberts wrote about his experience in the Texas Rangers in his book titled "Rangers and Sovereignty".  I have a copy reprinted from the 1914 edition.

Capt. Roberts is a classic example of the times of the cowboys and the Texas Rangers from the late 1800's.  His book, and several others of the era paint a romantic image of the wild west.

Sadly, when studied with today's perspective on fairness and equality, it's possible to see that while these men were acting in perfectly good faith in accordance with their time and environment - their actions brought about a tragic end to the native peoples.  Life was simple then.  But make no mistake - it was harsh.

Dan Roberts is buried in the Texas State Cemerary, in Austin Texas.
